The Elevation of Edgehill Village
Perfectly situated between our prized 12South and the Gulch is the up-and-coming luxury retail destination of Edgehill Village. This quaint area has been a regular haunt for Music Row executives and artists for quite some time as it’s within a few blocks of all of the top publishing houses, record labels and recording studios that Visit Music City is famous for. On any given afternoon, you will see groups gathered at Barcelona Wine Bar or Bella Napoli for the incredible happy hour pricing on specialty wines and menu items. One of the area’s most beloved watering holes is Old Glory, which is tucked away inside what was once a boiler room. Inside this intimate space, it is all about serious craft cocktails, with too many options to count on the menu. Old Glory is also always hopping on weekend nights, with live performances, DJ dance parties and a very cool, local crowd.
If you haven’t been to the area in a while, you are also missing out on some of the city’s most convenient specialty shopping. There is ample parking in both lots and on nearby streets and it is far less crowded than the larger and more popular shopping neighborhoods. Stores such as J.Crew- The Men’s Shop, Alton Lane and Warby Parker initiated the growing upscale vibe to the neighborhood (and is turning into a menswear mecca of sorts as well). Edgehill is also where you will find country music stars ducking into Salt and Soles for reflexology, wellness classes, and salt cave sessions or to pick up one of the healing salt lamps to take home.
This evolving neighborhood is now undergoing an even more unexpected transformation, with high-end restaurants and luxe brick and mortar shopping additions popping up weekly. Billy Reid recently joined Aesop in the stunning, exposed brick retail spaces adjacent to the Spanish-inspired Barcelona. Celebrity stylist, Claudia Fowler’s treasured boutique, Haven (with interior design by Robin Rains), also made the move to this bustling area from its long-time home in Downtown Franklin. When I popped in to see her new space, she described the transition as a feat that was “in the making for a few years. Our business model has changed somewhat over the past 13 years as we evolved and adapted with the times and the snowballing growth of the city of Nashville. We needed to be closer to our sister shops, Hero 12 South and Parish in the Gulch, and when luxury retail brands Billy Reid and Ralph Lauren’s Double RL signed with Edgehill village, I knew that was a good fit for our Haven customer and our current business model.” Claudia also worked her styling magic and put me in several refined, yet voguish looks comprised of the season’s best pieces. Needless to say, there were purchases made.
The new retail isn’t solely local, though. Ralph Lauren’s luxurious urban western line, Double RL, just moved in, further proving the area to be a true shopping destination. This men’s and women’s clothing and accessories store nods at Ralph Lauren’s Colorado Ranch and takes inspiration from the Old American West. You won’t find any preppy polos at this RL outpost!
There’s also rumor from mega-manager Ken Leviatan, who in addition to managing acts like Kid Rock and Hank Williams, JR., under his Vector Management roster also co-produces The Music City Food and Wine Festival each year. With a group of partners, he’s also focused on bringing unique dining concepts to the city, with the next opening slated for this neighborhood. If you’re a fan of Emmy Squared, Adele’s, 404 Kitchen or Baja Sexto, start celebrating as the Edgehill concept is slated to be the group’s best yet. For a more casual (but delicious) option, the soon-to-be-opened, Jack Brown’s will certainly satisfy any hunger.
With all these new additions, there’s no excuse for not finding your way to Edgehill Village for a day of shopping and dining. And with the holiday season among us, Edgehill may be the perfect one-stop-shop for all the men in your life as well. Click through the gallery below to get a peek at some of the new retail spaces.
